Although the reviews are helpful, they may not be accurate. Some travellers will leave negative reviews because they are being rude or difficult. Even if the hotel is not that bad, they can make it look terrible. You can’t expect a 2-star hotel that serves as a 4-star hotel.

On sites like these, travellers like myself can find helpful resources such as information about bike rentals, tours, and so forth. You can also start a chat thread to ask other members about the hotel you are interested in. It is much easier to get answers than before.

Toiletries and other facilities in hotels

It can be very frustrating when a hotel doesn’t have toothpaste. Another incident was when I had to work in bed because the hotel room did not have a table. These issues were not listed on the booking websites.

It’s a good idea to contact the hotel ahead of time to find out what to expect. Ask about amenities, such as toiletries, breakfast, and other services. This will ensure that you get fewer surprises.

Different people have different preferences. The receptionist at a Jakarta hotel asked me if I wanted a smoking area. I told her I did not want to have a smoking room because I was not a smoker. Another hotel also told me that smoking in the room was not allowed as there were no rooms for smokers.

I don’t require a smoke-free room. However, I try to find a non-smoking space as I don’t want to have to deal with the smell of another person’s cigarettes.

Special Needs

There are some special needs that travellers may have. If you are travelling with a pet, finding a hotel that allows pets is important. You will also need a hotel with an elevator or an elevated toilet seat if you have a disability. Safety is paramount when travelling. Make sure you check out the facilities that are available at your hotel.

Loyalty rewards and special discounts

I love discounts. You will, I’m sure. I always try to find the best hotel deals when booking. I sometimes stay at a hotel to take advantage of the discounts.

It is a great idea to carry loyalty cards when you travel. I had to book a hotel on the booking site to receive a free night in any hotel. However, I didn’t get the free night. The site didn’t offer many options for hotels that would suit my needs. It was definitely worth the effort.
